Nothing quite sums up spring as blossoms on trees, the dramatic transformation from bare branches to flower laden beauty.  The most well known example of this is the rows of blossom trees in Kungstrådgarden but this example is actually in Mariatorget, Södermalm.

A house boat floating on Arstaviken, Södermaln in Stockholm.  There aren’t as many house boats that I’ve seen in Stockholm as there was in Vancouver which had several clusters in Granville Island and Coal Harbour.  I’ve certainly not seen a house boat this isolated before..

Sunset over Liljeholmen and the bridge connecting it to Södermalm, the park on the near shore is Tantolunden park.  Its great to see the open water after the months of frozen ice we’ve had during the last winter.  The boat traffic in and around Stockholm is increasing every day now.

Sunset over the waters of Arstaviken seen from Södermalm.  I don’t know why I haven’t explored this area sooner but it makes for a very pleasant walk along the water side in the evening sun.  Evenings are noticeably long now with light till after nine in the evening.

There are hints of spring growth starting to appear in the parks around stockholm, isolated patches of greenery are sprouting!  These flowers were near the main gate into Djurgården near the bridge from Strandvägen.

Spring has reached Sweden at last, flowers are now starting to carpet the ground again!  Soon the trees will start to sprout leaves and the cherry blossoms will return to kungsträdgarden too.  The spring transformation in Sweden always seems extreme due how late it starts in the year and how quickly it happens.

As a first impression to Sweden Arlanda airport’s newer sections are a fairly good introduction to Swedish style and design.  The airport itself is relatively small but pretty well connected with road, bus and train transport links.  There are some shops, cafes and restaurants to pass the time in too.

This picture may be deceptive as Riddarfjärden is almost clear of ice now, with only some remnants left.  Spring is here with a vengeance: we’ve had the first rain in months which has freshened the city up nicely!

While the spring though is under way now and the ice is mostly gone, cycling around town is still a domain of the brave!  As there is still plenty of ice lurking in the shadows as the near and far shores in this picture show.
